NOTE:

Marriott offers travelers a choice of three frequent travel programs: the Marriott Rewards® Program, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Program and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Program. Effective August 18, 2018, Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and the SPG will keep their separate names for the time being but will function as one program operating under the same terms and conditions.

The following answers summarize the RewardsPlus program and are qualified by the full RewardsPlus terms and conditions which can be found here.

1. What is RewardsPlus?


“RewardsPlus” is a partnership with Marriott Rewards®, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards, SPG® and United MileagePlus®, offering new and enhanced benefits.

MileagePlus members receive:
  • Complimentary Gold Elite status in Rewards and SPG® (open to MileagePlus Premier Gold members and above, registration required)
  • Conversion of MileagePlus award miles into Marriott Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio (open to Premier Silver members and above, registration not required)
  • 10% bonus MileagePlus miles when converting Marriott Rewards points into MileagePlus miles (open to all members, registration not required), plus a 5,000 miles bonus for every 60,000 Loyalty Program points converted.
  • 10% more MileagePlus miles when redeeming Loyalty Program points for RewardPlus Travel Packages (open to all members, registration not required)

Members of Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG receive:
  • Complimentary Premier Silver status in MileagePlus (open to Platinum Premier Elite members and above, registration required)
  • 10% MileagePlus miles bonus when converting Marriott Rewards points into MileagePlus miles (open to all members, registration not required), plus a 5,000 miles bonus for every 60,000 Loyalty Program points converted.
  • 10% more MileagePlus miles when redeeming Loyalty Program points for RewardPlus Travel Packages (open to all members, registration not required)

2. Why is MileagePlus partnering with Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG?


Marriott's global network of over 6,500 hotels and resorts aligns well with United's comprehensive global network, meeting the needs of our frequent travelers. This partnership enhances the travel experience for select MileagePlus Premier and Elite members while adding more value to all members of MileagePlus, Rewards and SPG.

3. What status levels are offered through RewardsPlus?


For MileagePlus members who are Premier Gold and above, the RewardsPlus program offers complimentary Gold Elite status with Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG (registration required). The status is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which the status is granted. MileagePlus members who have trial Premier Gold or above status due to the MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge program are not eligible for RewardsPlus complimentary status.

For Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG members who are Platinum Premier Elite (including Platinum Premier with ambassador), the RewardsPlus program offers complimentary Premier Silver status in the MileagePlus program (registration required). The status is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which the status is granted. Members who have temporary Platinum Premier Elite status due to the Taste of Elite program are not eligible for RewardsPlus complimentary status.

4. What are the benefits of Gold Elite status?

5. What are the benefits of MileagePlus Premier Silver status?


The benefits of MileagePlus Premier Silver status* include:
  • Complimentary access to Economy Plus® at check-in (when available)
  • Complimentary Premier Upgrade confirmations as early as day of departure (when available)
  • Premier Access® travel services, which include designated ticket counter check-in lines, priority security lines, priority boarding and priority baggage handling (where available)
  • One complimentary checked bag (70 lbs. (32 kg)) for travel within the US
  • Two complimentary checked bags (70 lbs. (32 kg) each) for travel between the US and Europe
  • 7 award miles for every dollar you spend on United flights

6. Does a customer have to be a member of MileagePlus, Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG to participate in RewardsPlus?


Yes. Members may join MileagePlus at www.mileageplus.com or Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG at https://www.marriott.com/rewards/createAccount/createAccountPage1.mi, https://www.marriott.com/ritz/rewards/createAccount/createAccountPage1.mi or https://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/account/enroll

7. Is RewardsPlus open to members who reside outside the United States?


Yes.

8. How do members register for RewardsPlus?


  • MileagePlus members who have Premier Gold status or higher can register at united.com/rewardsplus, while Platinum Premier Elite members and higher can register at marriottrewards.com/rewardsplus.
  • Member logs in with their member number and PIN/password
  • C. Once member is authenticated, the site will display the member’s corresponding Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards or SPG account and MileagePlus number. If the corresponding Elite / MileagePlus number is not found the site will prompt the member to enter it. Member must accept the terms and conditions of the program, and then their request will be processed.
  • Member’s account will reflect the updated status in 7-10 days. Members can expect membership credentials to arrive in 4-6 weeks.


9. Do members who receive MileagePlus Premier Silver status through the RewardsPlus program have the same benefits as other Premier Silver members?


Yes. However, the Premier Silver status through RewardsPlus is valid only for the remainder of the calendar year in which the status was granted (not including the following calendar year). RewardsPlus eligibility criteria for complimentary status offerings may vary from year to year and members must meet the criteria each year to register their request for complimentary status.

10. Do members who receive Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Cartlon Rewards and SPG Gold Elite status through the RewardsPlus program have the same benefits as other Gold Elite members?


Yes. However, the Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus is valid only for the remainder of the calendar year in which the status was granted (not including the following calendar year). RewardsPlus eligibility criteria for complimentary status offerings may vary from year to year and members must meet the criteria each year to be eligible for complimentary status.

11. Once a member has the complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status, can they reach a higher Premier status?


Yes, but only by reaching all published qualification requirements. For example, to reach Premier Gold, a member must earn 50,000 Premier qualifying miles (or 60 Premier qualifying segments) and $5,000 in Premier qualifying dollars with at least four paid flights operated by United, United Express or Copa during a calendar year. 12. Once a member has the complimentary Gold Elite status, can they reach a higher Elite status?


Yes, but only by reaching the published requirements. For example, to reach Platinum Premier Elite, a member must stay 75 nights. For more information, please visit https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/member-benefits/platinumpremier.mi.

13. If I already have Gold Elite status or higher and MileagePlus Premier Silver status or higher, do I need to register for RewardsPlus?


No. Please note that the website will accept your registration, but your status will not change. It is also not necessary to register for the miles and points benefits offered by RewardsPlus.

14. If I registered and was granted complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status through RewardsPlus and have re-qualified for Platinum Premier Elite status for the following year, will I need to also re-register my request for complimentary Premier Silver status for the following year?


No. Members who have already registered for and received complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status through RewardsPlus in a calendar year and who qualify for Platinum Premier Elite status for the following calendar year will have their previous registration with RewardsPlus automatically renewed and will receive complimentary MileagePlus Premier Silver status for the following calendar year.

15. If I registered and was granted complimentary Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus and have re-qualified for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following year, will I need to also re-register my request for complimentary Gold Elite status for the following year?


No. Members who have already registered for and received complimentary Gold Elite status through RewardsPlus in a calendar year and who qualify for MileagePlus Premier Gold® status or higher for the following calendar year will have their previous registration with RewardsPlus automatically renewed and will receive complimentary Gold Elite status for the following calendar year.

16. If I was a registered and eligible member of RewardsPlus receiving Gold Elite status with Marriott Rewards prior to August 18, 2018, do I need to re-register to receive the new Gold Elite status benefits?


No. Eligible MileagePlus Premier Gold and higher members who were actively participating in RewardsPlus prior to August 18, 2018 will receive the updated Platinum Elite status through January 31, 2019. In February 2019, these MileagePlus members who requalify for RewardsPlus for the next program year will receive the updated Gold Elite status benefits.

17. Can Platinum Premier Elite members use their membership cards at the airport to enjoy the benefits of Premier Silver, like Premier Access and EconomyPlus?


No. Eligible members who wish to enjoy the benefits of MileagePlus Premier Silver status must register and be confirmed for the RewardsPlus program at marriottrewards.com/rewardsplus to obtain their MileagePlus Premier Silver status. To enjoy Premier Silver benefits, Premier Silver members must enter their MileagePlus number when booking flights with United.

18. Can MileagePlus members who are Premier Gold or higher use their MileagePlus membership cards at Marriott hotels to enjoy the benefits of Gold Elite status, like room upgrades and complimentary breakfast?


No. Eligible MileagePlus members who wish to enjoy the benefits of Gold Elite status must register for the RewardsPlus program at united.com/rewardsplus to obtain their Gold Elite status. To enjoy Gold Elite benefits, Gold Elite members must enter their number when making reservations with Marriott.

19. What hotel brands are in the Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and SPG family?


Marriott features the largest portfolio of award-winning hotel brands in the industry. 20. Will MileagePlus still partner with other hotel programs, such as Hilton HHonors, Hyatt Gold Passport, IHG RewardsClub, Wyndham Rewards and others?


Yes - MileagePlus values all of its hotel partners and will continue to offer our members the option to earn miles for their hotel stays or to transfer their hotel points into MileagePlus miles.

21. In addition to the status benefits, what are the other “points and miles” benefits and how do they work?


All members will enjoy a 10% MileagePlus miles bonus when they convert points into MileagePlus award miles beyond miles offered by most other airlines. Plus, for every 60,000 points converted, the member will receive an additional 5,000 bonus miles (automatically converted from a 15,000 points bonus).
In addition, all members can earn 10% more award miles when points are used for a RewardsPlus Travel Package which includes MileagePlus award miles and hotel accommodations -a bonus of up to 12,000 MileagePlus award miles.

Moreover, MileagePlus Premier members can convert their MileagePlus award miles into points at a ratio of 1 mile to 1 point (max of fifty thousand miles per member per year).

Registration is not required for the points and miles benefits offered by RewardsPlus. Customers must be members of MileagePlus, Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards, and SPG to take advantage of the RewardsPlus points and miles offers.
